'the pieces' by the auroran sunset

return to my poetry's home.

this little burst of creativity was inspired by roy orbison's "it's over" as i was sitting in traffic this morning... i've often wondered why hearts always break in two, rather than another number of pieces... so i thought i take the piss out of the roy orbison school of excessively melodramatic break-up songs.. but with a little twist. --_^

the pieces

it breaks my heart in ten,
to know she picked up that pen
and wrote me a note full of pain...

it breaks my heart in nine,
to hear she's doing just fine,
so far away in another's dream...

it breaks my heart in eight,
to see it was never our fate
and all our happiness was just a fad...

it breaks my heart in seven,
to know that your heaven
is with him and not with me...

it breaks my heart in six,
to think of all those tricks
you played, and i believed...

it breaks my heart in five,
to see you're still alive
and not here in my arms...

it breaks my heart in four,
when i hear a knock at the door,
and you're still not here...

it breaks my heart in three,
to think you loved only me.
or so it seemed...

it breaks my heart in two,
to see your love wasn't true.
oh, what could i do?

it breaks my heart in one,
to remember all our fun,
a-laugh and a-dancing in the sun.
