'quis est pater?' by the auroran sunset & samuel west

return to my poetry's home.

quis est pater?

lyrics for "fennel" verses were done by me [the auroran sunset], those for "sam" verses were done by samuel west. this song is done to the tune of "all blues", a slow blues standard.

sam's verses are half the length of mine because he puts guitar twiddles between his lines, whereas i sing for the whole twelve bars...

sam's second verse is based on events happening at the very time of writing. giggle we did muchly - this whole song is probably only funny to us. :-)

the song title is "who's the daddy?" in latin. doesn't make much sense, but sam didn't want to use "the biblical sense", which was my first choice, as it's too likely to get up relignik noses.

(verse 1) sam: i woke up this morning,
and my baby was gone.
i woke up this morning,
and my baby was gone.
i looked down that lonely road,
and i was the only one.

(verse 2) fennel: but now i'm not blue,
and you know why.
(sam: i don't believe you boy.)
but now i'm not blue,
and you sure know why.
yeah my baby, oh she left me,
she left me a pig in my bed.

(verse 3) oh i'm happy as a lark.
yeah, i'm singing the pinks.
oh i'm happy as a lark.
yeah, i'm singing the pinks.
because i know a pig..
oh, it's in the biblical sense.

(verse 4) sam: the wrong girl's got my number,
i don't want her to call.
the wrong girl's got my number,
i don't want her to call..
somebody please shoot her:
she's knocking at my door.

(verse 5) fennel: yeah but you know it's not all bad:
the girl has a few friends.
yeah but you know it's not all bad:
the girl has a few friends.
last year, for christmas,
she sent me this really nice pig.
