below i shall set out to prove that blue is the mightest colour ever to grace our lives with it's glittering presence and that blueness is the superior way to be in these modern times of tempest and dull clothes.
me
i am a paragon of blueness... my drink is blue, my music is blues,
my jeans are blue (one pair at least), my hat is blue, my shirts are blue
(two of them, including a lovely silk one), my ties are blue (well some
of them have a lot of blue on them), my nail varnish is blue (blue is one
of the 9 colours i have), i will 'soon' have a blue (for running like lightning,
another blue entity), my hair is blue, my bedroom is blue (except the ceiling
which is bright pink), i intend to aquire some blue suede shoes and dye
my blades the correct colour, also my battleaxe is due for a paintjob (blue
of course)... if you want to see some pictures of me being particularly
blue, click here. for more info
click here. blue is a way of life, it is a way
of thinking, a way of acting, and above all it looks damn good.
the blues
a style of music that grew out of the r&b in the late 50s, it had
an immense influence of the progress of many of the styles that came out
of the sixties, particularly motown (my favourite genre). two good examples
of this type are aretha franklin and janis joplin, but also eric clapton
and many others in more diluted form...this a style of music which in it
lyrics tends to dwell on all things sad... however the voices, melodies
and timing in many of the songs makes that irrelevant: if fact the blues
is the best type of music to cheer me up with.
curaçao bleu
this was the first alcoholic drink i even considered trying... it's
such a lovely blue, and tastes of oranges... it's a bit too sweet and certainly
not my favourite of the liqueurs that it led onto (bailey's is)... i heartily
recommend getting some just to look at it.
bluebird
from the 20s and 60s a father and son, sir malcolm and donald campbell,
between them broke over 20 world land and water speed records. donald campbell
is still the only person to have broken both the world land and world water
speed records in the same year (1964). all their cars and boats were given
the name bluebird.
one, however, was extra special: the bluebird in which donald broke the record in '64 driving at an average of 403.1mph over 2 miles. this car's claim to fame was it exceptional good looks, and you don't have to take my word for that because you can see a picture here... be prepared to be stunned.
hoovooloo
a super intelligent shade of the colour blue.... they designed the
'heart of gold''s improbability drive... for ceremonial purposes they get
refracted in to prisms.... obvious one of my heroes.
electricity
have you noticed how sparks, lightning and other electrical phenomena
always look more impressive and beautiful in blue? the proof just keeps
mounting.
sky/sea
everybody knows the bodies of water and air always look best in blue...
air counts for 99.9% of our atmosphere and water accounts for more than
65% of our planets surface... i think 'the great old one' might have been
trying to tell us something.
lapis lazuli
it's a type of rock which according to my old (not age) chemistry
teacher was "like a piece of the sky fallen to earth"... a wonderful colour,
and a rare and valued stone, often used in jewellery.
the moon
whenever something is really rare it happens once in a BLUE moon...
what a stunning vindication of the supremacy of blueness it is to be chosen
to represent the rarest and most special of events.
copper sulphate
this was the first chemical i remember playing with... it's the standard
introduction to chemistry, and what a good choice it is: the colour is
wonderful, although one of the ammonia complexes that copper forms has
an ever better blue.
colour
blue is one of the three primary colours of light... human eyes have
a type of cone dedicated to the viewing of this wonderful colour... the
blue cones need approaching twice the light level to be activated that
the red or green cones require for activation. also many blue frequencies
including 'pure' blue also 'fire' the red cone, which is why 'pure' blue
looks purple. klein knew the brilliance of blue... he made a painting by
spraying onto a flat surface the purest of pure blue pigments.
to learn more about the theory of colour you can go to another site that i maintain and built (although this site is written by abelard, and mostly designed by the same entity). this site also contains articles on many other interesting topics, as well as having a very good list of books worth reading. the front page is www.abelard.org and the actual article is at www.abelard.org/colour/col-hi.htm.
oxford & cambridge
both oxford and cambridge, the top universities in the world (at least
in prestige), have blue as their trademark colour. for oxford it's a navy
blue, for cambridge it's a cyan. also the top teams in any of the main
sports are called the blues, and you get 'a blue' for playing for such
a team. another bit of prove that blue is superior.
songs
the beautiful south made an album with the title 'blue is the colour'...
there is a band called 'deacon blue' (a deacon is a high church official,
obvious blueness is needed to give such a person any credibility)... elo
dedicated a song to 'mr. blue sky'... shorty long sang about 'the devil
with the blue dress' (even the devil has strange sexual predilections)...both
carl perkins and elvis presley dedicated as song to their 'blue suede shoes'....aretha
franklin had a 'blue holiday', that must have been extra special...elton
john was had an obsession with 'blue eyes'...mark wynter suggested he had
seen 'venus in blue jeans', i always knew she had taste....david macbeth
liked 'mr.blue'... george gershwin wrote a whole 'rhapsody in blue'...maxine
sullivan enjoyed 'blue skies'...jimmy lunceford sung about 'my blue heaven'......
i think you might have got the point by now: blue rocks.
