admonishments

this is meant as a update/continuation to my axiomatic document, aiming to explain my actions through ellucidation of a few fundamental mindsets i try to cultivate.

  1. the borders of my country run along the soles of my feet
i except no authority but that of expedient - my freedom, like that of any other reasoning creature, stops when it interferes with the lives of another such creature and not before. it is my responsibility, and my responsibility alone, to behave in a way that will not result in another such creature coming and bopping me one. similarly it is my responsibility alone to bop those that impinge upon me.
  2. judgement is necessary and good
i entirely do not subscribe to the idea that every idea is "equally valid". there are many that are patently stupid, many that are patently dangerous and many that are patently not compatible with how i want *my* world to be. i have absolutely no problem with making such judgements, and acting upon them.. my right to make such decisions, much like any other right i say i have, is mitigated by the conditions in the first maxim.
  3. 'equality' is unempiric, and dangerously so
thinking in terms of 'equality' is a thorough nonsense, and a root cause of much woe and strife. such thinking should be entirely eradicated if you wish to remain sane and operate effectively.. there is more detail in my axiomatic document, as well as in many of abelard's logic articles.
  4. it is your duty to fix the world
if there is something that is a problem to you, do what you can to fix it... leaving a nuisance festering is to become part of that fester, and you bear responsibility for its subsequent form..... the logical continuation of this is that you are responsible for everything that happens around you, whether you are directly involved or not. calling it someone else's troubles and moving on is not something i consider ethical.
  5. be tolerant of anything but intolerance
if you consider this contradictory then you misunderstand tolerance.. it is simply a matter of taking responsibility for the consequences of the value judgement you made in being tolerant.
  6. be a perpetual student and a perpetual teacher
to stop learning is to join the timewasting sheep getting in the way of thinking creatures. to not help others to learn is extremely shortsighted for one that wants to make *their* world a more amienable place.
  7. trust the good fairy
if you persistently do the right thing, things work out. at every decision point make the best judgement you can at the time and move on. keep your eyes open: opportunity is all around, just waiting to be seized... the good fairy will make sure that at opportune moments those that act well get their rewards, and those that act less well are similarly rewarded. there are consequences to all your actions, both good and bad - the gist of the consequences is largely a choice you make.
